San Francisco Child Abuse Council
The 4th Annual SafeStart Training Event: Every Step of the Way: Integrating Services for San Francisco’s Children and Families Effected by Violence.
The event had 106 attendees from 45 different organizations throughout the City. Presentation topics included services for children, support line/crisis intervention, shelter/housing, domestic violence services, restraining orders and child custody, and legal services.

Children’s Collaborative Action Team of San Mateo County’s 2011 Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month Activities included: Mailing of 2,000 Mandated Reporter Training Letters with the Partners in Prevention bookmarks. A CCAT Coordinator and a Parent Representative received a proclamation from the Board of Supervisors. The parent spoke of how the Collaborative has helped her. The team also created a half page ad in Parenting on the Peninsula, held a special presentation on Human Trafficking in the Bay Area with an emphasis on child trafficking with over 75 in attendance, distributed over 3,000 Partners in Prevention pins and bookmarks and ran weekly email blasts throughout the county giving information about child abuse prevention.
Santa Clara’s Child Abuse Council’s 29th Annual Conference Angel Award Recipient: California state assembly member Jim Beall, Jr. deserves special recognition for introducing the California Fostering Connections to Success Act in 2010 — AB12, a piece of landmark legislation to extend benefits for foster care youth from ages 18 to 21 with the help of federal funding. Beall has brought our voices to Sacramento and finds time to hold meetings throughout the community. Nearly every year for the past five years, he has addressed the 350 to 400 participants at our annual symposium.

The Children's Network of Solano County

Sonoma’s California Parenting Institute hosted a training event: No Such Thing as a Bad Kid: The Power of a Strength-Based Approach in Reshaping the Lives of At-risk Children and Youth.
Every April, Prevent Child Abuse – Sonoma County hosts a series of events to recognize the importance of child abuse prevention. The Blue Ribbon Training and Luncheon is the culmination of a month long series of community awareness events, classes and workshops. The 2011 Luncheon presentation was given by Charlie Appelstein with the title: “Use the Force!” Managing Number One First…& Staying Motivated to do the Job. Congratulations to our Blue Ribbon Award winners: Carrie Hess, Sharon Spaulding and Jan Torgerson!
Free parenting workshops were offered during April and presentations were given at several chamber of commerce events and Kiwanis clubs on the topic of child abuse prevention. The website: preventchildabuse-sonomacounty.org was launched.

Alameda County Child Abuse Prevention Council sent out prevention information to the county's juvenile court judges, police depts., fire depts., most of the private day cares, elementary schools, board of supervisors and school board presidents.
The council also worked with Chabot College to provide a day for all parents residing in shelters to come and receive child abuse prevention information and supplies for their children such as clothes and gifts.
The council handed out abuse prevention information, blue ribbons and bracelets to a total of about 5,000 in the community.
The council also requested the board of supervisors proclaim April child abuse prevention month with the District Attorney's office.

and staff of the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center. Every April, since 1990, DTC has launched we launch a month-long Blue Ribbon campaign. The blue ribbon symbolizes the effort to build awareness, provide education, raise funds and inspire hope in the attempt to prevent the abuse and neglect of children in the community.

Marin County

Napa County CAPC distributed blue ribbon materials at their event which had approximately 175 participating community members. Pictured below: Jerry Tello, key note speaker who spoke about the importance of father involvement.

Other events during April included a training by Charlie Appelstein and Kid’s Day at Cope Family Center, a festival with fun activities for kids and community resources for parents.
